 Quick return to desktop

press and hold the Windows key and press D, it will take you back to the desktop, you can press it again to get back to the window you were working in.

press and hold the Windows key   and press M will minimise all windows except dialogue boxes, often useful when you can’t find the window that needs to Press ‘OK or Cancel’ to continue working.

Open Windows explorer

press and hold the Windows key   and then press E (explorer).

Open Search

press and hold the Windows key   and then press F (find)

Change between programs/applications

Hold down the left Alt key and press Tab, keep pressing tab to cycle through the open applications.

Screen Grab (& working window)

Press Print Screen (or Prnt Scrn) on the keyboard, on a standard keyboard its next to F12. The screen image has now been stored, but to get hold of the stored image you need to go into a program like Paint, Photo-Editor, Paint Shop Pro, Word, then go to the Edit menu, then choose paste and the screen image should appear. (If you want to only grab the current open/working window, then hold Alt while pressing Print Screen).

Maximize of current working window

press the left Alt then Space then X, as they are so close together it’s quick to type.

Microsoft Word keyboard hints

To delete a whole word : press CTRL and Backspace

To select a whole word : press and hold CTRL and SHIFT the press the left or right cursor key, hold down to select more words.

To select a whole paragraph – this same technique as above when you press up or down on the cursor keys.

Copy (selected text/image etc.) : press and hold CTRL and press C

Cut : press and hold CTRL and press X

Paste : press and hold CTRL and press V

To quickly zoom in and out of the document – hold down CTRL and roll the mouse scroll-wheel up or down
